Sustainability is also a major issue for the Stadttheater Klagenfurt. In cooperation with Sonnenkraft GmbH as the producer of the high-quality PV modules and Vivatro GmbH as the contractor, a photovoltaic system was installed on the roof of the municipal theater in 2024, which will make it possible to save around 60,000 kW of solar energy per year in the future.

Everything from a single source.
Vivatro GmbH is responsible for the planning, design, roof assembly and electrical installation. Due to the listed building status, special requirements had to be met for this project. As a listed building, the theater is subject to strict regulations. After consultation with the Federal Monuments Office and other relevant authorities, the installation of a PV system in the area of the flat copper roof on the new building was finally approved. When installing the panels, it had to be ensured that the system was not visible from the street and would not be a nuisance.

This was achieved by using the low-glare black Maxim Black 410Wp modules produced locally by Sonnenkraft GmbH. The 185 panels form a visual unit with the copper roof. They are mounted on a rail system that was attached to the seams of the copper roof. The Vivatro GmbH team includes specialists from the roofing and tinsmith trades and can therefore guarantee optimum professional installation on a wide variety of roofing materials. A nominal output of up to 75 kWp can be generated on a total area of 350 m2.

To get an idea of the power generated, the electricity consumption of a family of four can be used as a comparison. With an average annual consumption of 3,000-5,000 kW, the new PV system can generate around 12 to 20 times this amount.

The theater has a net usable area of approx. 11,000 m2 and of course the consumption, with the stage, workshops and offices, is incomparably higher than in a single-family house. The annual energy consumption is approx. 520,000 kW, around 60,000 kW can be compensated by solar energy in the future.

Both the roof installation and the electrical installation were, of course, tailored to the theater's playing times. Some of the installation times were moved to the weekend to ensure that the theater could run smoothly.
